Meet The Jartender

Yes I know, it sounds cheesy, but what an appropriate name for a bartender that became a Java developer! (jar is an Acronym for Java archive which typically contains the bits and pieces of a Java application).

I am 29 and come from South Africa, but now live in Norway. I started developing / coding / programming or whatever you wish to call it, in 2007 and am self taught through a correspondence college, internet, O'Reilly books, love for being a geek and my natural ability to solve problems. This site aims to achieve: 1)Showcase of my knowledge through tutorials to others with a focus on Java, and 2)Provide guides and help for other developers.

Java is broken down into 2 versions and I am certified as a SCJP and SCJD for (JSE); and SCBCD and SCWCD for (JEE), to back me up beyond my website that showcases some of my skills.

This site is built using The Gimp (I did the graphics myself), IDEA (my IDE), Java, CSS3, Facelets, XHTML, Maven and is hosted at Eapps and is deployed on Tomcat,

I develop with IDEA as mentioned and use a dual system to harvest the benefits of Windows 7, Ubuntu, Virtualbox, Virtualbox, bash, ssh and gives me the ability to test websites in ALL browsers(Unix, Mac and Windows). It's worth noting additional benefits like the freedom of Unix and tools like the Gimp and a ssh client on Ubuntu and the ability of Win-doze(zzzz) to run Photoshop (if you'd like to buy me a copy), and the awesome Camtasia screen recording software. I also have used Jboss and Glassfish, but these are overkill for a site like this...

It's worth noting that sometimes my examples may be a little off and we all make mistakes. That being said, I have been dealing with a brain tumor at the same time as learning development which has not been easy.

Hope you like and thank you to all in the Java community as this site would not be possible without the distribution of knowledge from my fellow programmers/coders... you know? :D

Support me/site below:

I am currently fighting an Anaplastic Astrocytoma. I am by no means alone in this battle. 1 in 3 people will get cancer. Additionally there are people worse off than me who are hungry. You can greatly aid through one of the organizations below. Of course I would greatly appreciate a gift card from Amazon, (this site has no ads supporting it). A decision I made to keep focus on what matters: Content.

  1. headforthecure.org

  2. cancer-society-Norway

  3. unicef.org

  4. Send me a gift card

If you like my tutorials or site, you can contribute through one of the links on the Home page.
